As a side-project of one of the big players in М8Л8ТХ, one of the better-known Russian NSBM brigades today, I had fairly high expectations for this demo, and I have to say, I’m impressed.

As I had expected, the guitar work was similar to М8Л8ТХ…. high pitched, distorted, and chilling. Riffing was pretty good I suppose, but it was a somewhat repetitive backdrop to the vocals. And Aleksey is a good vocalist. He doesn’t seem to growl very much, but his clean singing is powerful, almost hypnotic, whereas his high-pitched harsh vocals are surprisingly compelling. Percussion is subdued, but it’s fast and fairly on-point, so that was good.

Some of the strengths of this demo come in pieces like Героическая молодёжь and Ночь пробуждения. The introduction makes me feel like I’m wandering through the streets of a Slavonic Reich in the wake of a revolution, and when the clean vocals start, the compulsion to salute upraised paintings of the Führer is strong. Soon, the bulk of the song begins, and I’d consider it aggressive if the percussion wasn’t so subdued and the guitars were so fuzzy. Again, the emphasis here is clearly on the vocal work, and although I don’t know much Russian, I was able to pick out repeated salutes to the Russian race and its supposed Aryan heritage.

One of the drawbacks to this demo is that there’s not a ton of variance in the songs. They seem to follow similar general patterns, and since it’s a one-man act, things fit together well–almost too well. It’s a great piece to listen to from start to finish, but nothing really stood out in my mind.

Overall, this is an excellent demo for fans of NSBM or Russian black metal. Stylistic references to early Темнозорь and the several Blazebirth Hall acts strongly appealed to me. I quite enjoyed the album, although, naturally, the ideology of Aleksey and his compatriots disturbs me. Dealing with fucked up ideas and people comes with the neighborhood when you listen to black metal, but, again, “Adolfkvlt” leaves very little to the imagination.

(review from Metal Archives)

The logo and name of Adolfkvlt make its intentions clear.
